Ichiro's Port Pipe: A Closer Look
Just as a follow up to the previous Dram Match, I thought I'd highlight an early Ichiro's label. I personally like labels with a lot of information provided, so I thought it would be nice for the English speaking audiences to know what Ichiro has to say about this early Chichibu.
Ichiro's Malt
Chichibu Single Cask
Port Pipe
At Chichibu distillery, Japan's newest distillery having
commenced operation in 2008, the storehouses are actively aging whisky in
various casks.
It is traditional to age whisky using the empty casks from
other kinds of liquor, but it is not until the actual tasting of the spirit,
that it possible to know the flavor imparted from such a long aging period.
At Chichibu distillery, we have just recently departed on a
long journey to find those casks perfectly suited for an aging environment.
This selection is taken from the stocks of Chichibu that
were aged in a promising cask once used to age port wine.
To enjoy the flavor as it would be straight from the cask,
this has been bottled as a single cask at cask strength. Of course, no artificial coloring has been utilized.
For all the time and effort it takes to age, please enjoy
this berry fruity, complex tasting whisky.
